NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS

Guidance On Every Step of the Way

Image 2.png

Imagine that your brain is a computer. A neurologist works with the hardware and the neuropsychologist specializes in understanding the software. Pediatric neuropsychology is focused on understanding the link between brain development and behavior. Not only does neuropsychology help to understand how your child pays attention, reasons, solves problems, processes language and visual materials, and retains information in their memory, it is also involved in understanding how they socialize, keep friendships, and respond emotionally to life's challenges and disappointing moments.

The evaluation process:

VIRTUAL PARENT INTAKE

In this 75-minute session, we discuss parent concerns, evaluation goals, and your child's developmental, medical, school, and social-emotional history

CLASSROOM OBSERVATION

This 45-minute classroom observation is scheduled for nursery, preschool, and kindergarten students. An observation for older children may be scheduled on a case-by-case basis.

TESTING

This schedule typically consists of three appointments that each range from 90- to 150-minutes depending on your child's age and stamina. Additional time may be scheduled on a case-by-case basis. My goal is to make the experience a comfortable, if not fun and enjoyable, experience. You are encouraged to bring your child's favorite snacks. Tests involve paper-and-pencil, computer-based, and iPad activities. A typical neuropsychological evaluation include tests that measure the following:

  • Intelligence

  • Language

  • Visual perception

  • Problem-solving

  • Planning and organization

  • Attention and memory

  • Processing speed

  • Fine motor (control over hand movements)

  • Academic skills

  • Emotional well-being

  • Behavior

  • Social skills

VIRTUAL PARENT FEEDBACK

In this 75-minute session, I present your child's data and cognitive profile, using visual aids to facilitate our discussion about their strengths and barriers to success. A detailed plan of action for supporting your child's growth and success will be outlined. When applicable, I connect you to trusted providers and specialists your child would benefit from to grow and thrive. I am always happy to speak about the evaluation findings with the providers that you choose.

CHILD FEEDBACK (optional)

This 15-minute session involves sharing with your child, in broad strokes, the strengths that they demonstrated and the areas that were more tricky for them. This is a strength-based conversation meant to empower students with knowledge and awareness about themselves. It also aims to help them understand how to use their strengths to their advantage when navigating areas that may be more challenging.

FULL REPORT

Approximately 3 weeks following your parent feedback, you will receive a comprehensive report with highly detailed, individualized, and reader-friendly analyses and descriptions of your child's profile, infographics, and recommendations. â€‹

SCHOOL FEEDBACK (optional)

This 45-60 minute session allows us to work in partnership with your child's school. A detailed summary of your child's profile and learning style is shared. The goal for this meeting is to develop an action plan at school that directly maps on to the areas of challenge for which your child may need more support. Oftentimes, learning plans, accommodations, services (e.g., speech/language, occupational therapy), and behavior plans are discussed.
