MY STORY
As a Taiwan-born, bilingual Taiwanese American, I have a deep commitment to and appreciation for diversity, culture, equity, and bilingualism. Much of my work has been dedicated to cultural neuropsychology and understanding the intersectionality between race, culture, bilingualism, and learning differences. I embrace cultural humility, specialize in understanding bilingualism in the developing brain, and rely on up-to-date research and tools to provide bilingual (Mandarin) evaluations. Learning about a child’s cultural and linguistic background in my work allows me to arrive at a deeper and more holistic understanding of how a child thinks, learns, feels, copes, and navigates their world.
I have also had the unique opportunity as a neuropsychologist and child psychologist to provide treatments for individuals of varying ages and across different settings. I guide individuals to reach goals that range from learning strategies to cope with anxiety, building organizational skills, improving writing skills, adjusting to post-concussion symptoms, and coping with cognitive difficulties following brain injury.
Now, I find working with teens and young adults most rewarding as it is a formative period of development that is full of curiosity, discovery, and adventure but also can sometimes be daunting and stressful to navigate. In addition to evaluations, I provide evidenced-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), organizational skills training, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Together, we work towards goals to promote self-discovery, independent application of executive functioning skills to achieve life’s goals, value-based decision making, and overall self-confidence.
